Asian Pulled Pork Wonton Cups

Rating: 4/5
Serving: 24 wonton cups
Preparation: 30 minutes

Ingredients:
  • 2 packages of Jack Daniel's pulled pork
  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • 2 small avocado, diced, lime juice squeezed over
  • 2 stalk green onion, chopped
  • 4 tbsp Mirin
  • Cooking oil
  • Salt
Sweet Chili Aioli:
  • 1 cup mayo
  • 1 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • zest of 1 lime
Directions:

Wonton Cups:
  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
  2. Lay one wonton wrapper on a flat surface, then brush each side with oil. Grently press the center of the wonton wrapper into a muffin tin. Alternate spaces in the muffin tins if the wonton wrappers you by touch each other.
  3. Bake for 8 minutes at 350F. Allow to cool enough to handle safely.
Crispy pulled pork filling:
  1. While wontons are baking, add 1 package of pulled pork to large sauté pan that has been lightly oiled.
  2. Add 2 tbsp of Mirin to the pan with pulled pork. The Mirin will bring extra sweetness and a hint of Asian-inspired flavor.
  3. Cook for -10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until meat begins to caremilize and liquid reduces. Set aside.
Sweet chili aioli:
  1. In a large mixing bowl, add 1 cup mayo, 1 cup sweet chili sauce, 1/4 cup lime juice, and zest of 1 lime. Whisk until well combined.
Putting it all together:
  1. Layer about 1 tbsp of pulled pork in each baked wonton cup. Top with diced avocado, chopped green onion, and a drizzle of the citrus chili aioli.
My review:

I made this for a Super Bowl party with my friends. They were definitely a crowd pleaser! The citrus aioli balances the sweetness of the BBQ flavor from the pulled pork. These wonton cups make great finger food. I think next time I make this, I might add a little bit of cilantro to add to the freshness!

Happy cooking and eating!
